Jefferson teacher named American Geography Society fellow

Jefferson High School social studies teacher Sarah Dahl-Wyland has been named a 2018 American Geography Society (AGS) Geography Teacher Fellow. She is one of 50 teachers selected from across the country.

As part of her fellowship, Dahl-Wyland will attend the AGS Fall Symposium, “Geography 2050: Powering Our Future Planet,” at Columbia University in New York City. Teachers will participate in an exclusive Mapathon, as well as a day-long workshop led by experts in geospatial technology, where they will receive training in open web-mapping and learn how to take what they’ve learned back to their classrooms. The symposium will also present Teacher Fellows with cutting-edge knowledge and awareness of the real-world geographic workplace skills demanded by today’s geospatial companies.

AGS is a 21st century learning society dedicated to the advancement of geographic thinking, knowledge and understanding across business, government, academe, social sectors and most importantly teachers and students. Learn more at
